Dawn clouds

power lines slice through faintly pink
dawn-streamed cloud

like kitchen's sharpest knife
silently
effortlessly separating
the thick sweet blanket
of "cloud" that mom likes to make
with thawed whipped cream
hint of strawberry jello mix
generic brand of cottage cheese

God's recipe shows no sign
of Miss Muffet's preference
but in His broad bowl we call sky
long, thin leftovers of night
greyish blue

after my eyes have had their fill
the flavor tastes of orange
like mother's after I've already
removed the squishy mandarins

still changing
as rays begin peaking over lofty mountain tips
my eyes taste a
dampened, inoffensive lemon

all traces of night now seem but shadows
as sky lightens
and earth is made ready
for vibrant sun's
reentry

Can't wait to be a Hermana!

My mission call came on Thursday, and I was already on my way to Spokane, Washington for the weekend. So Mary opened it and I read it over skype. I could hardly believe it was true! I received the wish of my heart. :)

I'm going to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I've been called to serve in the Honduras San Pedro Sula Mission.

I'll be around til Sept. 16th, and then it's off to the tarantula and bat-filled, wild jungle-y, banana capital of the world for me!

When Columbus left it, he said, "Gracias a Dios que hemos salido de esas Honduras" or, "Thank God we have come out of those depths". I say, Gracias a Dios que puedo ir a Honduras.

"These are the perfect ripeness."

That's what my mom just said as she brought me a plate of nice, juicy, cut up cantaloupe with little toothpicks sticking out of some of the pieces. I'm downstairs, internet surfing, and she doesn't even like us to have food downstairs. She left as she said, "You're gonna miss me!!"

I certainly will. I have the best mom in aaaaaaalllll of England.

I'm expecting my mission call this Wednesday! (victory dance)

Sir Robert

Like steadfast knight
with foe to conquer, boldly he stands,
with not a sword but
rubber weapon in my father's hands.

He strikes! Impact
causes crumbs to dance on the table.
Mother glares: she
just wants a nice meal, if we're able.

Determined to
slay the small black wing-ed enemy,
he slaps and slaps
but buzzing means the fly still lives free.

Fly swatter hits
right in between celery and chives.
The fiend is dead!
Our father has saved our very lives!

All cheer but mom.
Table is a graveyard for dead flies,
But through her hand
I see her smile, twinkle in her eyes.

That little brother of mine means business!

Blast from the past!

Emphasis on blast. This video is really belated: it's from April, 2008, after the ward's closing social. This was when Robyn and I were just starting to become friends with the guys in apt. 34. And guess what? We're still friends with them. After all this time. In fact, they've kept me sane in this adjustment of moving home, waiting to go on my mission, and having a quite non-productive summer.

Don't tell your uncle who's a cop that I wasn't wearing a seat-belt. With Jared driving, I really should've. :)
